Grant MacDonald

Grant MacDonald is a leader in sport and event hosting and is President of GM Event Inc. With over 25 years’ experience in leadership positions in the not-for-profit sector, with government and in the private sector, Grant has established a reputation as a trusted and knowledgeable leader of organizations and major projects.

Grant is the Past Chair of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance and served as Chair from 2011-14. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2008 and works as a consultant with CSTA’s Consulting Services program.

Specializing in the development of strategy related to major events, sport tourism, destination marketing and economic development, GM Event Inc. has worked with clients across Canada on both national and international profile projects, including:

Grant led both Events Nova Scotia and Events Halifax and developed the provincial tourism strategy in Nova Scotia. More recently he has led the effort to establish the Atlantic Canada Event Summit and consults to its governing association, Event Atlantic.

Earlier in his career Grant worked with Hockey Canada and other organizations in Halifax staging the IIHF World Junior, World Women’s and World Men’s Hockey championships. 

He began his career in amateur and professional sport while also working as a Scout for the Toronto Blue Jays for eight years, including the World Series year of 1993.
